How do you organize a motor home while living in it full time?

I need storage ideas and ways to keep it organized. It is the size of a walk in closet with the bedroom and kitchen in one area. ( about 50 sq ft)

This is a fantastic site to help you declutter your home. Maybe you have to get real and not keep so much stuff. Happy New Year!

My husband and I travel a lot and live in our RV full-time. We’ve been doing this for 3 years. Your motor home has even less space than my RV so organization is critical.

You’ll need to pare down to the bare essentials. The items you keep should, where possible, perform more than one function. Even your clothing.

Since your motor home has a kitchen, you might want one small pot and one small pan. You can keep all your flatware in a small basket. If there’s a 99 cents store in your area, go there to get your dish drainer. They sell the perfect size for campers. You’ll also find all kinds of storage items and even dishes that are perfect for camping. RV places are expensive and sometimes you can get the same thing cheaper, (much cheaper) somewhere else.

You may also want to buy one or two large plastic storage containers that you can keep outside. It can hold things that you don’t use all the time like tools or extension cords, etc.

You’ll get more ideas the longer you live in your motor home. Just remember, the $1 store is a camper’s best friend.

We use plastic storage boxes to keep similar items together. We have a box for fuses, duct tape, other r.v repair type things. This box is up above the microwave in the top cabinet since we don’t need to get it down often. We have another small box for all office supplies – a miniature stapler and miniature box of staples, tape, pens, pencils, etc. Our cabinets around the room are designated subjects. One cabinet is the dogs’ meds, toys, first aid, grooming supplies, etc. for example. Another is DVD’s, remotes, and other electronic related. The DVD’s are all in a carry case rather than individual boxes. We’ve done away with the videos because they took up too much room. Tools are all in one bag in the bottom of a closet. A laptop computer can replace lots of things such as maps, phone books, and reading material. We also shop for groceries more frequently so as to not take up too much storage space. Get books from a library or trade them in when done. Donate or recycle magazines to avoid the clutter build up. We have definitely learned to live with much less. We like it so much I’m even de-cluttering my stick house.
