Is it possible to have a horse trailer that resembles a motor home?

I’m writing a story and I’m wanting to know if its possible to have a horse trailer that resembles a motor home in the way that in a motor home you can walk around and do things. I’m curious if its possible (or even invented yet) to have a horse trailer that one person can be driving and the other can be walking around by the horses.

yes but you will need the proper permits and paperwork

Yep. Kind of. I’ve never seen one that didn’t have to be pulled by a truck, but you can still buy a trailer that just has living quarters on the front of it. They are pretty common, but you shouldn’t walk around in there while you’re driving.

I have a friend who built one. He took a large camper and reinforced the frame, put a ramp on the side, and built it 3 horses across facing each other (van load) so a total of 6 with space in the middle and a small walkway from the cab to the back. It still had living area too, so it was very fun to go to events with him!

He sold it several years ago, and all he wants to do is build another one, better than the first.

    It’s a pretty custom thing.

edit–I never understand the comments. You don’t believe me? You don’t like John? You don’t believe that John and his dad built such a thing? You just think it’s weird? You were bored and like to give down thumbs?

John’s mother is British, and they have things called horseboxes which is a large box truck with horses in the back and often with living quarters in the front. They were very common 40 years ago in the UK; I don’t know about now.

Yes, John built a horsevan from a huge camper frame. Yes, we could still use it as a camper when we got to the event. It worked nicely, but it would have been easy to be sneaky to get across state lines and not stop at the ag stops like in CA and FL…..

yes almost everyone at shoes i go to has them there about the size of 10horse trailers. They have kitchens and bathrooms and everythink normally its the living part then a realy big tackroom then you can open a door to where the horses are but i dont think its legal to be in any vehicular form of transprortation and stand up while its moving. Though some of them are like trailer houses that move.

Well, they do make trailers that are part camper, part trailer. My cousin has one, and they are pretty cool and HUGE. But they aren’t like a motor home, because you pull them with a truck or semi. And you can’t really walk around by the horses, because its got a wall. Your idea, could be possible in the future, but I don’t think that exists yet (well, I bet one could be custom-made for you if you’re really rich). Good idea!!

they have horse trailers/campers. . . and i have heard of grooms riding with the horses. . .but i don’t think it’s the same idea that you have. i do remember on one old tv show they did have a horse trailer set up differently sorta like a mobel home deal. . . but again not exactly sure that’s what you’re looking for.

if it’s not invented. .. oh well, doesnt mean you can’t use it in your writting.

I’ve heard of them. They don’t seem particularly popular in the US, but in the UK and Europe, horse boxes are pretty popular.

Motor home manufacturers are making a motor home horse trailer combo. The one I saw holds 4 horses and sleeps 4 people.

In the UK there really popular and are lorries with "living" that is they carry between 2=6 horses in the back and the front half/quarter is the living. They range from just having a basic seating through to full kitchen, shower and beds. We also have them called "Lutons" where you can walk from the drivers bit through to the back and the beds/storage then tend to be above the cab. Google Whittaker Horse Boxes UK and you’ll see what I mean.
    Hope this helps
