This story was reported on WDAM. I’m a 7th Generation resident of Jones County. Jones County never seceded from the Confederacy.
A large group of men from Jones County and the surrounding area deserted the Confederate army, started their own gang, and my G-G-G-Gfather rode to Memphis, Tn then to Vicksburg, Ms to officially swear in the entire gang to join the Union.
This is a really interesting story, detailed in the book “The Free State of Jones” by Victoria Bynum and soon to be a movie.

The law enforcement agencies around here are notorious for pulling over “suspicious” looking out of towners to catch drug runners and raise revenues.
Sheriff Hodge is credited with one of the Nation’s largest highway drug seizures.
We had a few Jones County Sheriff Deputies in the last couple of years that were caught planting drugs on people & beating up inmates.
Most of our Deputies are good people and the Sheriff’s Dept does not reflect the people of Jones County or our independent spirit.

ok i checked this and yes they were apparently harrassed. they were pulled over because they are young and were coming from the direction of texas. this has happened many times to me and friends of mine. they were profiled. Funny how many cops are the bullies from highschool. These thug cops didnt like the boys knowing there rights and aulting one with pepper spray was a redneck thug thing to do. I hope jones county is ashamed of themselves.
