I need to know if I should fix the car or just sell it?
Filed under: motor homes for sale

This will be kind of long so please unless your willing to help don’t bother.

We are military and live in Germany about 2 years ago on R&R in the states our taxes came in and I saved 3 grand to buy a beater when I came back. I found one for $1400. It was an 90 manual beemer 3 series. I paid 500 to the guy because it was a sunday and that is my withdrawal limit. I told him to meet me at the bank the same time the next day and I would give him the rest. After I paid him he left me and a friend were standing in the parking lot talking to our neighbor still at the bank our kids in the car and the car blew. I was pissed I called him and told him, he came back and looked and said that the tub for the radiator had just came off I believed him he fixed it and left.

We made it home, had been here for 5 mins when the car blew again this time I had another man look he said the radiator needed to be replaced, he was right. I called the man who sold me the car but of course he didn’t answer. We had to pay 500 euro to get it fixed. Got the car back a week later had it for 5 days when all of a sudden it wouldn’t start, the fan motor was burnt out, yet again 500 euro to fix this as well.

My husbands deployed again and said if I can get the car fixed then do it if not then sale it to the man who buys them cheap to repair them. We still have 2 months left here after he gets back and we may have to go without a car. The current problems with the car are.

Parking breaks are litteraly gone
inside left turn light is out, already tried to have this fixed but it seems no ones knows jack about electrical issues out here.
car sounds like a.s.s something is wrong with the exhaust
trunk button sticks and sometimes trunk wont latch
have to lock the doors twice they unlock them selves > this ones strange
hole in wash fluid resivoir

Its going to cost upwards around 1300 euro to have this car completly fixed, to be able to sale, we still won’t make a profit because of how much we have spent in repairing it. The man who buys them is offereing us 500 US dollars for the car as is.

What should I do just sale the car to the man who fixes them or repair it so we can have it for 2 months after he gets back then sale it for maybe 800 if we are lucky.

I personally would sell. I had a car that I just kept pouring money into to fix it, and I wound up selling it and lost $1000+. My point is, things are going to keep going wrong with it, even if you do put in the 1300 to have it fixed. Just sell it to the guy for 500.

Car Broken, What Will Happen With Insurance?

Today I was driving on the motor way when my car started making a weird noise. I got off the motorway and turned onto my girlfriend’s brother’s estate when the car cut out. I restarted it and got in front of his house when it cut out again. I called out RAC who then checked the levels of the car. Apparently the oil level was a lot worse than I thought and the engine was basically gone. The RAC said that I would probably be able to get back home at a snail’s pace if I avoid the motorway. So we headed home and now my car lies in it’s driveway grave.

I spoke to a mechanic I knew about getting a replacement engine but he said it wouldn’t be worth it as the car would never seem the same and I’d probably end up having to buy all sorts of new parts for it, by which time I may as well have bought another used car, which I’m planning to do.

Now, I’m not sure what I will do with the car now. Do I arrange for someone to pick it up to have it scrapped? What do I have to tell the DVLA? Just that the car’s outright broken? Also, what will happen with regards to the insurance? Will the company cancel the remainder of the policy or will I have to continue paying the ridiculous amount I am now for a car that no longer runs?

I know I’ve babbled, but today’s been pretty horrendous and I’m now extremely stressed so any advice would be awesome :)

1 – There are specific car recyclers that will pick the car up and pay you for the scrap. They are in the yellow pages and some advertise in local papers. They have to be licenced now.

2. The V5C (log book) has all the details on it of what to do when you sell it for scrap – make sure this is completed properly when it is picked up – do not be fobbed off with oh we will take care of that – make sure it is all done there and then

3. If you intend to have another car the policy can just be altered to suit that when you have got the details. If you are not having a new car then i will have to be cancelled. Do not expect to get money back and do expect to pay a cancellatio/admin fee.

In France and Spain is it illegal to park is a standard car park with a motor home and sleep there.?

Me and a few friends are touring France and Spain, stopping off at Calais, Paris, Bordeaux, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Montpelier and Lyon in a motor home. we are struggling to find accessible camp-sites so are wondering if it is legal to just park up in a field somewhere or a car park and spend the night there. Any help with this dilemma would be appreciated.

You and a "few" friends. The law is flexible – but look at it from a Gendarmes point of view.
I lay up in car parks near Calais/Dunkerque the night before my ferry – no hassle. But you MUST be non messy, quiet at night, no fooling around.
Away from the coast there are plenty of municipal campsites. I have used motorway car parks – go away from the shop, be polite – no problem. Remember motorway service stations have good showers as well.

2003 TRX250EX motor problems?
Filed under: motor homes for sale

ok so i have a 250 ex. used pretty good a put a big gun rev limiter on it, a dyno jet stage 2 jet kit in it a a yoshimeria full exhaust kit on it witch i took the baffle out of. it ran good for a while.. i tweaked the carb ran good.. then it started smokein and it all went to hell. it will burn all of the oil in less than an hour and smokes like nothin else ive ever seen before. i final came to the conclusion that i put too big of a jet into it and that it was dumping to much Fuel (do to the flame and back fireing on acation). i figure that the exes fuel had hardened the cylinder wall and was causing the oil to blow past the rings. i havent had time to take it apart due to the fact that im in the military and not home much at all. but i dident know weather i had to buy a new cylinder or if i could just get a sleeve. i see they have sleeves for sale on line. but i dont know if the sleeve would press out or if they dont. i am new to this yahoo answers thing so please bear with me! thanks for the input!

All the oil in 1 hour!!!! Wow that’s pretty bad. You would be better off to get an oversize piston kit for your quad. Also while that work is being done do the valve stem seals and check the guides.

You could also try some Cleens (ac delco combustion cleaner). If you spray an ample amount of this in the cylinder and let it sut overnight it may free up some sticking rings and bring your compression back up again.

how much would a new diesel engine for a 25ft class A motor home cost?
Filed under: motor homes for sale

Or a rebuilt used one.
I cant find a single web site with simple and plain info on engines for sale…

What engine do you need to replace? What model class A do you have. Too many factors to quote a price here. I know an in-frame rebuild of a Detroit Diesel series 60 costs $12k. I suspect a complete engine swap for you could be double that.

can you build your own travel trailer/motor home at home and use it?

can anyone build a travel trailer that you can hook up to the back of your car and live in when you go on trips , or do you first need a permit? and how much would it cost to get a permit like that if its needed

Yes, in some cases.. it strongly DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE!!!! Russia will have different laws than Australia. Tennessee is different than Washington DC.. So, with what you have provided there is no way to answer you with an accurate answer.

How to get online while traveling in a motor home?

I will be traveling around the western US in a motor home this summer. Any thoughts about how I go online other than looking for library or Starbucks?

Get mobile internet, it is usually like a usb key and it gives you access to Internet anywhere. I sued to have and use it in the bus on my way to work. The only downfall is that it can be a bit expensive. But now I have an iPhone and that allows me to stay connected 24/7.

When is the right time to buy a new car..?
Filed under: motor homes for sale

I bought a car in September 08, my first car. It’s a 55 plate Vauxhall Astra SXi 1.4ltr petrol in Silver, i took it on a 5 year finance agreement paying £130pm.

As it was my first car, i was excited, but stupid. I hate the car, i don’t like it so much i avoid driving it. Don’t get me wrong, i like Vauxhall, and i do like Astra’s, but just..not the car i have. I love cars and would never mistreat a motor simply because i don’t like it, i am a careful driver and take care of my car.

I am absolutely itching to get rid of this, i.e trade it in for another model. I earn around £17,000pa take home £1,100pm. From any car sales person or simply a motor lover, can someone tell me roughly, when is the right time to trade my car in, and if i trade it in now what are the possible consequences?

I know if i trade this car in, i will take my time and take care of my choice and it will be a car i keep, so as far as negative equity goes or losing money on my car, should i be that bothered?

The best time is either just before a new reg is due out because sales are down as people are waiting to upgrade or near the end of a month when salespeople are desperate to reach their monthly target.

P.S. How’s your paradiddles?

how do you start a lien sale in the state of california, on a vehicleor motor home, for storage fees?

I just need to know how to start te proceedure for a lien sale of an abandon motor home left on my property

WEll, first off, did you have a contract or agreement for storage fees? If not, then selling it is going to be difficult to impossible. You have tohave an impound license to do this, or a contract for storage fees.

Assuming you have those, there are several steps.

First, you need to take the agreement to the DMV and request an RO/LO check (Registered owner / Legal Owner). The RO is whoever has the title to the car. An LO would be a bank or lienholder.

When that comes back, you send certified letters to BOTH parties (If there is no LO, just send to the RO). The letter needs to state that the owner has 21 days to remove the property or it will be sold at auction.

You need to place a notice in the legal section of your paper, or any local publication that has circulation within your area. You cant put it in the Thrifty Nickel, it has to be a real publication. That notce must also state that the owner has 21 days to remove the property or it will be sold at auction.

If the registered letter comes back to you, DO NOT OPEN IT. Opening it will start the whole process again. You must keep the sealed envelope as prrof you attempted to contact hte RO at his last known address.

You must contract with an auctioneer to sell off the property. You must publicize the exact date, time and location of the auction. Then you pay auction fees and keep the balance of the sale.

You will then send a second certified letter to the RO stating the vehicle was sold at auction to satisfy outstanding storage fees.

The buyer of the RV gets all the documentation – storage bill. lein sale affidavit, copies of ad in paper, the unopened certified letters, and any other documentation in order to title and register the RV.

Now

If you DONT have a contract for storage, you cant do any of this. Its abandoned on your property, but with no agreement or impound license you cannot sell it. You need to contact the largest tow yard in your area, and ask them to remove it. THen THEY get to do all the fun steps above. You wont receive any money, but it will be gone, and it will be their legal hassle not yours.
