I went to Auto-zone to dispose used motor oil for recycles, but the staff just poor the oil into their tank and then suddenly gave me back the empty plastic oil bottles (I reuse oil bottles that came with the new oil from store bought to store the used oil) with the residual oil in them and told me to throw them away in my home trash bin. I am wondering if this is safe for the environment to throw away plastic oil bottles in trash when they don’t collect them for recycle? Should we be worry if they end up in landfill where the residual oil from plastic bottles might otherwise leaks into the environment?
I agree more should be done towards recycling, but this is the status quo for now unfortunately.
If it helps I’m considering a business that would collect waste oil, and the containers at the same time.
Dude, oil comes from the ground! The tiny bit in the bottles isn’t going to ruin a water supply or anything. Just chill you dooms day maniac, lol! I’m kidding of coarse. Just take a breath it’ll be fine. There are a lot of little things like that, that we could be doing to be more environmentally friendly but there just isn’t a company that I know of that’s wide spread around the usa that’s collecting oily bottles. Just throw them away and skip a long vacation and save gas if it makes you feel better that you’re helping the environment.
